Common problems of laser cutting stainless steel

If the laser cutting process parameters are strictly controlled during the processing, the good corrosion resistance of such materials can be maintained. The important process parameters that affect the quality of stainless steel cutting are cutting speed, laser power, air pressure and so on.


1. Produce small and regular burrs in the form of drips

Possible Causes


(1) The focus is too low 

(2) The feed rate is too high 


Solution 


(1) Raise the focus 

(2) Reduce the feed rate  


2. Long irregular filamentous burrs are produced on both sides, and the surface of the large plate is discolored

Possible Causes 


(1) The feed rate is too low 

(2) The focus is too high 

(3) The air pressure is too low 

(4) The material is too hot 


Solution


(1) Increase the feed rate  

(2) Reduce focus 

(3) Increase the air pressure 

(4) Cooling material 


3. Long irregular burrs are only produced on one side of the cutting edge

Possible Causes 


(1) The nozzle is not centered 

(2) The focus is too high 

(3) The air pressure is too low 

(4) The speed is too low


Solution 


(1) Centering nozzle 

(2) Reduce focus 

(3) Increase the air pressure 

(4) Increase speed


4. Material is discharged from above

Possible Causes


(1) The power is too low 

(2) The feed rate is too large 

(3) The air pressure is too high 


Solution 


(1) When this happens, press the pause button immediately to prevent molten slag from splashing on the focusing lens.

(2) Increase power

(3) Reduce the feed rate

(4) Decrease the air pressure 


5. In addition to the above common problems, yellowing of the cutting edge may also occur  


Possible Causes 


Nitrogen contains oxygen impurities 


Solution 


Use good quality and high purity nitrogen
